A Figma bug with roots that go back to 1977

A Figma engineer discovered a bug with roots that traced back to the 1970s. Turns out it related to a string of decisions responding to how early computer users and devices behaved. Honestly, I’m surprised that there isn’t more of this “space junk” type debt floating around our modern applications–or if there is, we haven’t discovered it yet.

This has me thinking about the art of maintenance, how how the timespan of our thinking (which seems to be shrinking) will impact our future.
